Course Content

The role of the Manager
We look at what the role of the Manager has become in modern industry and the competencies that will need to be displayed to become an effective Manager.

The 7 Habits
We look at the 7 habits of effective people by Stephen Covey. This compliments the competencies work and provides an insight into how to become a more effective person and therefore a more effective Manager.

Management Styles
We explore the different Management styles and when they are appropriate to use. We help the delegates adapt their style to suit the teams they will manage.

Communicating with your Team.
In this section the delegates with cover three elements; 1. Motivation of the team - [introducing Maslow.] 2. Coaching the team to improve performance.3. Managing team communication.

Practical Exercise
Working in pairs the delegates get the opportunity to practice their coaching skills

The Appraisal Process
We look at how you can effectively plan for your first appraisal and the preparation involved. We also discuss the role of the Manager and the person being appraised.

Setting Objectives
We look at setting SMART objectives to allow the delegates to create a series of objectives and measures to test their knowledge. They will also be asked to set objectives for their team as part of the course.

Feedback
We look at ways of providing effective feedback and allow the delegates to explore giving and receiving of feedback in their groups. We use the ‘feedback chair’ to improve their confidence in delivering and receiving feedback.

Future Planning
We look at how the delegates can put tangible action plans in place for their staff and how to set up coaching action plans and personal development plans.

Delegation
We explore the principles of delegation and provide some useful tips on how to identify poor delegation.

Objectives
The delegates will have an all round understanding of the principles of Management. The two days will be as interactive as possible to allow them to develop a strategy for dealing with their team on their return to the workplace.
